There are times in history when great leaders take over the running of a country and change its direction completely for the betterment of its people. After Mao Tse Tung who governed China for 28 years using the communist doctrine which destroyed people’s ability in wealth creation, Deng Xiaoping took over and changed the economic history of China completely. Today China is probably the second richest country in the world and the standards of living of their citizens have gone up astronomically. Let us now talk about Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, our hero who took the Singapore economy from poverty stricken to the highest per capita income of USD 61000. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew believed in himself and took appropriate action with the country’s future in mind. He is a man with great vision, immense passion, unlimited zeal and a commitment that stood the time.
Singapore is lucky and blessed, but for him it would have been just another country in the Far East. The number of tough situations he had to deal with required pure guts and arrogance. History will remember him as one of the greatest doer, thinker, philosopher who understood everything that needed to be and acted firmly with great gusto and vigor. Every Singaporean is indebted to him for his commitment and contribution to his country.
Mr. Modi has made it to the highest office with his sheer tenacity, hard work, sincerity and commitment. Just watching his family watching the swearing in ceremony from a small house touched our hearts. He does not have to tell us that he is not corrupt. We know it. The opposition parties tried to vilify and to discredit him and attributed all social mishaps to him. Now with the majority that he enjoys in the parliament he can do wonders for India which I believe he will. This will discredit others who spread malicious propaganda about him.
Like Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, Mr. Modi has to stand the ground, show grit and commitment and implement policies with full faith which will improve our country in all aspects including the economy, the environment, and the social inclusiveness. His selection of ministers and consolidating their roles are all welcoming signs.
Mr. Prime Minister Sir, you are a true leader of a great country! You are fully aware of all the problems we citizens face. We know that you have the heart in the right place. We have no doubt that your tenure of office will stretch many 5 years and are sure to see the hopes and desires of an average Indian will be addressed. Your transparency and governance will be a fresh and new experience to us. We belong to your team and you can count on our support. History will be telling in the years to come about the way you stood the time and fought all odds to make India a super power similar to what Mr. Lee Kuan Yew did for Singapore.
Finally, one may argue that it was lot easier to change the economy of Singapore because of its size as compared to India which is several times bigger. But the fact of the matter is when the govt policies are adapted; the results will be the same regardless of the size and of the nature of the problem. What really is required is the commitment from both the govt and its citizens to take the country economically forward.
